EDIT: So I got the location wrong. Big deal. You can tell me that I'm defiling the honor of the slumlords when you can tell me the difference between a Brazilian slum and any other one in the world. You can't, because there isn't any, and even if there was, you wouldn't know it. You are not inspired nor informed because you watched this movie. You were simply entertained.

randomly found this blog while searching for from city of God stuff, just thought you should know, it takes place in the slums aka favelas outside of Rio de Janiero in Brazil, this is why they speak Portuguese and not Spanish
KUDOS TO THE FIRST C0MMENT THE SOCIAL OUTCAST THAT WROTE THAT COMMENTARY IS LOST... PORTUGUESE ISNT EVEN SPOKEN IN PUERTO RICO!!! HENCE THATS WHY ITS A BRAZILIAN MOVIE ABOUT ACTUAL SLUMS THAT EXIST IN BRAZILLLLLLL
Definitely kudos to the last guy who posted!
At least you could have researched the film and brushed up on your geography!!! The City of God, better known as Rio De Janeiro, is in Brazil along with the other city they mentioned in the film which was Sao Paulo, which are both in SOUTH AMERICA, not in the middle of the ocean in Puerto Rico. And the movie is in Portugese, not Spanish.
Even though two people have already corrected you, I had to, just because I'm a huge fan of this movie, not to mention I'm an Irish guy from Boston. It bothers me when I see mistakes as HUGE as that on the internet, misinforming people is not a good thing to do. Pretty soon every American is going to think Brazil is in Africa or something like that.
